The application of radio frequency energy in medicine is well established and the principles of radio frequency have been utilised in radiology, oncology and cardiology, for more than 75 years. RF is the basis of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and surgical diathermy, both applications being used in hospital practice.
Since 2000, RF treatments have been used in the field of cosmetic dermatology to improve skin laxity, wrinkles, acne scars, cellulite, stretch marks, and a number of previous studies have been published using various medical devices.
Radiofrequency (RF) uses electric current instead of optical sources like laser and uses the energy generated from the current to generate heat inside the dermis. The heat, as a result, triggers dermal remodelling to give its anti-aging effects.
RF energy can be delivered to the skin in a variety of ways, the most common being monopolar, where RF is delivered via a single probe placed on the skin with a grounding pad distant to this site; or bipolar, where the RF is delivered from a probe with two electrodes placed over the treatment area.

Process
An initial consultation with you and your therapist will determine your skin concerns and goals. The skin is then thoroughly cleansed to remove any make-up or impurities from the surface of the skin. A grounding electrode will be applied to your lower back, gel will be applied to the treatment area and the radiofrequency handpiece will be massaged over the skin. This is a comfortable yet hot sensation to the skin. Our practitioner will be monitoring the skin?s temperature to ensure the treatment is safe and effective. Following the procedure a sunscreen protection will be applied.
