PRP

Platelet Rich Plasma(PRP) Therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses your own blood to rejuvenate the skin or scalp. PRP injections stimulate healing by providing important concentrated growth factors from your blood that facilitates the action of your stem cells as they work to repair the damaged tissue. PRP can address hair loss, scars, reduce stretch marks, fine lines and wrinkles and will brighten, rejuvenate and rehydrate the skin.

Expected benefits of PRP include:

  • an increase in skin collagen and elasticity
  • reduced fine lines and wrinkles
  • improved skin complexion

  • improve scarring
  • stimulate hair growth

History

The clinical efficacy of the PRP was discovered in the early 1970’s when haematologist first used PRP for thrombocytopenia (low blood platelets count) patients and in 1980’s PRP was used for maxillofacial surgery. Since then PRP had been extensively used in many clinical and surgical fields such as orthopaedics, dentistry, wound healing, urology, gynaecology and ophthalmology.

PRP’s uses and applications in the field of dermatology has been increasing over the years. This is due to its role in the regeneration of tissue, scar revision, healing of wounds, skin rejuvenation, and some forms of hair loss.

Process

Your specialist will firstly carry out a consultation with you to find out your skin concerns and goals. Your skin is then cleansed to remove any make-up or impurities from the surface of the skin. Blood is first drawn from the arm, and then placed into a centrifuge which rapidly spins the blood sample, prompting it to separate into 2 components (the plasma and the cellular layer which contains both red and white blood cells.) The concentrated PRP layer is then harvested and reinjected into the area that needs to be treated.
