History

Microneedling has been around for decades and has been advancing with the times becoming a mainstream procedure for many aesthetic practitioners.

Medical microneedling has been widely used in aesthetic medicine for many years and the first recorded use was in 1905. A German dermatologist, called Ernst Kromayer, first reported controlled resurfacing of the skin and his technique involved the use of rotating wheels and rasps, which were used to treat acne scars, birthmarks and areas of hyperpigmentation.

By 1995, a new technique was discovered by Dr Desmond Fernandes for the treatment of wrinkles and scars with the use of hypodermic needles and also developed a small needle stamp to induce collagen production, which later led to the development of our modern microneedling devices.

Skin needling techniques have become internationally recognized as the safest, most effective way of treating lax skin, wrinkles, scars and stretch marks.

Process

An initial consultation with you and your therapist will determine your skin concerns and goals. Your practitioner will discuss with you the most suitable treatment plan taking into consideration your concerns, recovery time and goals for the treatment.

The skin is then thoroughly cleansed to remove any make-up or impurities from the surface of the skin. Dr. Levy Radical3 Reboot Pro Peel is applied to the skin to deeply exfoliate and prepare the skin for the microneedling therapy, followed by Intense Stem Cell Serum to nourish the skin, reduce signs of ageing, and to improve skin firmness and radiance.

Before the microneedling procedure, a topical anaesthetic cream is applied over the entire surface area which is left on for 20 minutes. The anaesthetic cream is then removed with antiseptic to ensure that the skin is clean and ready for the microneedling treatment. A serum is then added to the skin as a lubricant to help the needles glide. The serum aims to reduce post-treatment redness and helps for a quicker recovery.
